Medicare tools

Three tools that answer a real question

These are the questions that actually decide which plan fits, not which brochure looks best. Pick one and start.

Find your Medicare enrollment window

Enter your date of birth and we'll map out your Initial Enrollment Period, the month to apply, and when coverage could start.

Annual Enrollment: Oct 15 to Dec 7

Plans sold in Hinds, Madison and Rankin counties can change their networks, drug lists and premiums on January 1. A free review shows whether your plan still works for you next year.

Turning 65 soon?

Your sign-up window opens three months before your birthday month. Miss it, and a Part B penalty can follow you for as long as you have Part B.

Coverage

Medicare coverage we compare for Jackson residents

We don't work for one insurance company. We show you the plans we can offer, point out where each one falls short, and let your own numbers settle it.

Part C

Medicare Advantage

These plans roll hospital, doctor and usually drug coverage into one card, often with dental and vision. You use the plan's network. Before you sign, we look up your family doctor and your specialists in the plans we can offer in your ZIP code.

  • Your doctors looked up first
  • A cap on yearly out-of-pocket costs

Medicare Supplement

  • No network to stay inside
  • Rate history checked before you buy
Medigap

Medicare Supplement

A Medigap plan works with any doctor or hospital in the country that takes Medicare. That matters if you see a specialist out of state or spend part of the year near family somewhere else. We set Plan G next to Plan N so you can see what the higher premium gets you.

Prescription Drug Plans

  • A twelve-month drug cost
  • Pharmacies compared
Part D

Prescription Drug Plans

We type in each of your medications at your dose and total what a year of them would cost in each plan we represent. The premium is one piece of that. We also compare pharmacies, from a big chain to a small drugstore near your house, to see where your drugs cost less.

Life

Final Expense & Life

A modest whole life policy that covers funeral costs and keeps the bill off your children. Lots of these policies have no medical exam, and many have a premium that never goes up.

Turning 65

Getting Medicare for the first time

You have a seven-month window to enroll and a single six-month window for Medigap without health questions. Working past 65 changes the timing. Once your dates are on paper, late penalties are easy to avoid.

Why choose us

Straight talk from licensed agents.

Jackson Senior Insurance is independent. A licensed agent takes your call and tells you the reason behind every suggestion.

  • A licensed agent answers

You speak with a licensed insurance agent who handles Medicare all day. There's no script.

  • We start with your doctors

Your providers and prescriptions go into the plans we can offer before we suggest anything.

  • Free to you

Carriers we represent pay us. You pay the same premium either way.

  • Jackson hospitals checked

UMMC, Baptist, St. Dominic and Merit Health are not in every network. We find out which plans include the doctors you use.

  • Everything on one page

Your options and their full-year costs fit on a single page you can keep by the phone.

  • A fresh look each fall

Plans reset every January. Each fall we run your numbers again, and we only bring up a change if it saves money or keeps your doctors.

We do not offer every plan available in your area. Please contact Medicare.gov, 1-800-MEDICARE, or your local State Health Insurance Program (SHIP) to get information on all of your options.

The process

How a free plan review works

There are four steps, and you can stop after any of them.

Start step one
  1. We talk for a few minutes

Call us or use the form. We'll ask about your doctors, your medicines, your budget and what you didn't like about your last plan.

  2. You get one page of options

We put prices on the plans available to you in your ZIP code and fit them onto one page to look over at home.

  3. We sign you up together

Choose a plan and we'll fill out the application with you, by phone or online, then confirm when coverage begins.

  4. We check back each fall

Plans change in January. Every fall we look at yours again and let you know if a switch makes sense.

Medicare help in Hinds, Madison and Rankin counties

Plan lists are set county by county, and each Medicare Advantage plan has its own network. One plan might include UMMC and Baptist, while another leans on St. Dominic or Merit Health, and those contracts can change each year. Before we suggest any plan we represent, we look for your doctors in it.

We help people by phone in Jackson neighborhoods like Fondren, out to Clinton and Byram, north to Ridgeland and Madison, and across the Reservoir to Flowood, Brandon and Pearl. If you live part of the year in another state, let us know, because it can change which kind of plan suits you.

FAQ

Questions Jackson callers ask us

Still wondering about something? Call 601-000-0000 or read the full Medicare FAQ.

When can I first sign up for Medicare?

Your first chance is the seven-month Initial Enrollment Period. It starts three months ahead of your 65th birthday month and wraps up three months later. From then on, you can make changes each fall in the Annual Enrollment Period, October 15 through December 7. In between, a Special Enrollment Period may open if you retire, move or lose job-based coverage.

What does your help cost?

Nothing. The insurance carriers we represent pay Jackson Senior Insurance. You'd pay the same premium buying from the carrier directly as you would through us.

How do I choose between Medicare Advantage and a Medicare Supplement?

Start with your doctors and your prescriptions, then think about travel and the monthly cost you can live with. We price both kinds of plans from the carriers we represent and show you the numbers side by side. The Advantage vs. Medigap comparison walks through the trade-offs.

Can you tell me if my doctor is in a plan's network?

Yes. We look that up before we suggest a plan. Around Jackson, doctors practice with UMMC, Baptist, St. Dominic, Merit Health and many independent clinics, and a network may include some of them and not others. We search for your doctors in the plans we can offer and check your drug list against each plan's formulary.

Will I need to meet with someone in person?

No. We do most reviews over the phone. Call us or send the short form, and a licensed agent will pick a weekday time with you.

Is there free Medicare counseling in Mississippi?

Yes. Mississippi SHIP is the state's free Medicare counseling program. The Mississippi Department of Human Services runs it through its Division of Aging and Adult Services. Call 844-822-4622. If a SHIP counselor has already helped you, we can start from what you learned there.
